It's gone.

on

Well, I missed out on Poetry Thursday this week, but I had a good reason. For me, it was Cholecystectomy Thursday. Say that one three times fast.

Yep, that's right, I no longer have a gall bladder. Apparently it's one of those organs that people can live without. I mean, here I am, gall-bladder-less, still walking and talking and blogging. I'm sore and tired but otherwise okay.

I am quite glad that it's gone because soon after Lucy was born it turned nasty on me and began producing gall stones, which in turn caused very severe stomach aches. Having experienced a gall bladder attack and childbirth within two weeks of each other, I can say that the gall bladder pain is not quite as bad as labor, but it ranks a close second. Apparently gall stones are more common in women than men, and pregnancy sometimes brings them on. All the hormones rushing around, and the rapid weight gain and loss is just more than that particular organ can handle, I guess.

And apparently it's no good to just remove the stones; once the gall bladder turns on you, it's bad for life, and will just keep on making the painful little things. As my doctor said, "It's the gall bladder that's the bad actor here." When I told my husband this, he said: "The bad actor that spoils the movie?"

Yes, honey. My gall bladder has become Keanu Reeves. But not to worry, because now he's gone.

Congratulations on having that behind you. I hope you have no further complications. (And tell Keanu to stay out of your way if he drops over...)
